Tracking number is unique. Article number may be different. your best bet is to call USPS Customer line and ask for status. talk to some one over there

I'm trying to file a redelivery request through USPS. And they require the Article Number? Which supposedly is on the notice slip left by the USPS man, but he never left a slip... the shipper shipped to the wrong address... or the mailman left it at the wrong house -__-. I'm wondering...

how do you know if you have something at the Post Office if you did not leave a slip?
You should call your local post office and ask to see if your package is at the office or not. If your package is on the shelves, then you either ask for a redelivery or you can pick up the package yourself. keep in mind that sometimes redelivery takes 2-5 days.
To answer yor question. Article number is the same as tracking number.
