I am interested in starting a computer recycling company in local and neighboring cities that takes collects old computer parts that companies are no longer using, and recycling the parts and selling them. Does anyone know if there are large companies that are already doing this and if there is a lot of competition in this industry?

Props for recycling!!

There isn't a whole lot of places who's primary objective is computer recycling.

I suggest making up some flyers and posting them on community bulletin boards at grocery stores, etc.

Another way to get your word out is to post some ads on your local FreeCycle website, craigslist, etc.

As for other places, there aren't many big companies, even where I live, that's main objective is recycling. You can bring stuff in to electronic stores, I'm assuming, and they'd recycle it, but I don't hear much advertising about it.

There are a few large computer recycling companies in the US. EPC, owned by CSI Leasing, provides computer recycling, data destruction, and used computer sales in the US and Canada. Redemtech, Intechra, and Techway also come to mind.

Many OEM's also have recycling programs - Dell, and HP both take back your old equipment.

To see what computer recyclers there are in your area, I recommend looking at Earth911.com, which is a directory of recyclers and green companies.
